How does live-in care differ from a care home?
We believe that live-in care is an excellent alternative to moving into a care home. It can be more practical and affordable, whilst enabling you to maintain your independence which cannot be guaranteed in a busy care home. We have listed some of the main differences between live-in care and a care home below.
There’s no need to move – stay in the familiarity and comfort of your own home
An unfamiliar environment in which you may be restricted on the amount of belongings you can take
No restrictions around seeing family, friends or your pets
There are often visiting hours that need to be adhered to
Dedicated one-to-one support, with a carer matched to your needs
There is often one carer supporting multiple residents and any given time
Fits around your routines and lifestyle
Routines are set for you based on the number of carers available
Less risk of infection and hospital admission
Higher chances of infection or viruses like Covid-19 from exposure to staff, residents and their visitors

Live-in care can be tailored to any situation
"Nurseplus Care at home have been absolutely brilliant in providing live-in care for my mother after her husband recently passed away. The office staff were all highly professional, sensitive and supportive of my Mother and family, and put together a detailed Care Plan and package to meet her needs. They have been quick to update this if needed.
The difference in my Mother since this package began is incredible. She seems very happy, settled and engaged now. It has been such a relief to know that she is so happy and well cared for following her husband's passing and that she has been able to remain in her own home."

Yes, we pride ourselves on finding the right carer for each client, taking into account your needs and preferences. Once we have carried out the care assessment, your care manager will provide you with some carer profiles which includes information on their background, experience, interests and a photo. Once your carer has been chosen we can arrange for you to meet them, either in person or via video call. We will then arrange for your carer to arrive at your home on the date you have selected for your live-in care plan to begin, accompanied by one of our branch team members.
Yes, of course. We understand that many people are cared for by family members who need to take a break from time to time. We can provide short-term live-in care to ensure continuity of care whilst your loved one is away. This can be anything from a couple of days to a few weeks.
We recognise that sometimes the need for respite care can be unexpected, so we can put respite care in place in as little as 24 hours.
No, live-in care and 24-hour care are not the same. Whilst they both involve a carer providing full-time care, there are distinct differences between the two.
Live-In Care: with live-in care, a carer resides in the client's home, typically for several weeks at a time, depending on the agreed-upon schedule. During their stay, the carer is entitled to breaks and adequate sleep. Live-in care is often suitable for those who require assistance but do not need constant monitoring throughout the night.
24-Hour Care: 24-hour care provides continuous, uninterrupted care, both day and night. Carers work in shifts to ensure there is always someone available to provide support. This type of care is ideal for individuals who have more complex care needs or those who require constant supervision.
